This Smoked Salmon Dip has quietly become one of those recipes guests ask about before they even leave the table. We recently served it during our Farm to Fork Dinner, and it disappeared almost as quickly as it was set out. It’s creamy, fresh, and just a little bit elegant—perfect for entertaining without much fuss.

Creamy Smoked Salmon Dip Recipe (Ready in 10 Minutes)
Whether you're hosting football friends, putting together a holiday appetizer board, or simply enjoying a glass of wine on the porch, this smoked salmon dip comes together in minutes and always feels a little special.
Ingredients
- 4 oz Smoked Salmon Store-bought or smoke yourself, then chilled
- 8 oz Cream cheese room temperature, plain or smoked
- 2 T Red Onion minced
- 0.5 c Sour Cream
- 2 T Capers minced
- 2 T Fresh Dill minced
- 1 T Lemon Juice
Instructions
- Combine the cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, red onion, capers, and dill in a medium bowl until smooth.
- Fold in the chopped smoked salmon until evenly distributed.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
- Serve chilled with club crackers, rye toast points, sweet potato chips, fresh vegetables, or sliced baguette.
This dip can be prepared up to a day in advance and refrigerated until ready to serve. In fact, the flavors become even better after a few hours in the refrigerator.
Notes
This Smoked Salmon Dip has become one of our favorite appetizers for special events. We first created and served it for the Thank You Dinner celebrating the opening of Nebraska Vegetable Protein in 2023. It was such a hit that we featured it again at Nebraska City’s Farm to Fork Dinner the following year, and we served it once again at the 2026 Farm to Fork event.
A few variations
- Substitute chives for dill.
- Stir in a little prepared horseradish for extra zip.
- Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter version.
